Farm Wife Devotions: Gentleness and Integrity
Gentleness is a very powerful word; it means the considerate courtesy and respect of the integrity of others.
Jesus is the perfect example of this. Gentleness and humbleness were two things for which He was known. When we are in the pursuit of divine peace (subject for another day?), gentleness plays a very important role. Respecting someone is easy on the good days, but our defining moments don’t happen then, they happen when we are at our worst. Your ability to apply gentleness to a situation not only shows your integrity, but it also show’s God’s integrity of loving us no matter how untamed we can be.
As women in agriculture, gentleness can be easy to forget. We are in a man’s profession/world and have to be tough or we may get run over. The old phrase “get tough” comes to mind. In all of that, we may forget gentleness. We may forget how to take into consideration others and their feelings, because we get so used to telling it how it is. Although, that key phrase in the definition of gentleness “respecting someone’s integrity”, does not necessarily mean that we bow down and let people run over us. Rather, we learn to respect someone and their opinion without losing ours! Someone once said to me, “You don’t have to show up to every fight you are invited to.”
Showing gentleness is key for us as women in agriculture.
We are often times the ones who are dealing with not only the general public, but each other on forums, Facebook groups and social media. We expect gentle courtesy and respect for our own integrity, but being able to offer it to others is important for a successful working relationship.
Heavenly Father, help us as women in ag to pursue gentleness in our everyday life. Help us seek You even when the waves of the world are crashing against us. Help us to find that divine peace and show it to the rest of the world. Allow us to use this tool as a way to show others Your gentleness and integrity. Please, draw us near as we continue through this week and until we meet again.
In Jesus name, Amen!
